Beloveds Who Died
This Day

24 July

Catalino Abelgas

V. Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord,

R. And let perpetual light shine upon them.

V. From the gates of hell,

R. Deliver their souls, O Lord.

V. May they rest in peace.

R. Amen.

V. O Lord, hear my prayer,

R. And let my cry come unto Thee.

Let us pray

O God, the Creator and Redeemer of all the faithful; in Thy mercy, grant unto the souls of Thy servants and handmaids the remission of all their sins: that through our devout supplications they may obtain the pardon they have always desired. Who livest and reignest world without end. Amen

Pray for an end to the murder of innocent babies in the womb

Abortion cries out to God our Father for judgment against an uncaring generation deaf to their silent screams.

The Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of Life, cannot abide in any unrepentant soul that accepts, condones, or assents to this heinous crime.

There is no greater moral imperative in our time

"And Jesus said: neither will I condemn thee. Go and now sin no more." (Jn 8:11)

Pray that each woman who has had an abortion will hear Jesus' invitation:

'Come into the embrace of My Mercy, and the promise of My Eternal salvation.'

De Profundis

I place my trust in the Lord, I am certain of His word.
Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord. Lord hear my voice!
O let your ears be attentive to the voice of my pleading.

If you, O Lord, should mark our guilt, Lord, who would survive? But with you is found forgiveness: For this I revere you.

My soul is waiting for the Lord more than a watchman for daybreak. Let the watchman count on daybreak and Israel on the Lord. Israel indeed will he redeem from all its iniquity.

Glory be to the Father, to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.

To the Eternal Father

Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus Christ, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere in the Universal Church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.

Prayer for the Holy Souls in Purgatory

Lord Jesus, have mercy on the souls detained in Purgatory. It was for their salvation that you took on our human nature and suffered a most painful death. Have mercy on their burning desire to see you, have mercy on their tears of repentance. Through the merits of your Passion, remit the sentence they incurred by their sins.

Dear loving Jesus, may your Blood descend on those dear souls! May it shorten their time of atonement and may they soon be called to eternal happiness in your Presence! Amen.

Mourning Prayer

Lord, God you are attentive to the voice of our pleading. Let us find in your Son comfort in our sadness, certainty in our doubt, and courage to live through this hour. Amen.

Lord, N.  is gone now from this earthly dwelling, and has left behind those who mourn his/her absence. Grant that we may hold his/her memory dear, never bitter for what we have lost nor in regret for the past, but always in hope of the eternal kingdom where you will bring us together again. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

O Salutaris Hostia Sacra

O Holy Victim for our salvation. You are perfect humanity, true divinity, the source and origin of our salvation. Have mercy on the deceased!

You, our Redeemer, O Jesus! You erase our sins and you forgive us. Have mercy on the deceased!

Touched by our prayers, sweet Jesus, and by the supplications of all the faithful, receive our prayers, and have mercy on the deceased!

O Jesus, we beg you to grant eternal rest to those who have died in your Grace. May the eternal and blessed light shine upon them. Amen.

Magnificat  (Douay: St. Luke 1: 48-55)

My soul doth magnify the Lord.
And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
Because he hath regarded the humility of his handmaid;
For behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
Because he that is mighty, hath done great things to me;
and holy is his name.
And his mercy is from generation unto generations, to them that fear him.
He hath shewed might in his arm:
he hath scattered the proud in the conceit of their heart.
He hath put down the mighty from their seat, and hath exalted the humble.
He hath filled the hungry with good things;
and the rich he hath sent away empty.
He hath received Israel his servant, being mindful of his mercy:
As he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his seed forever.

Prayer to Mary, Queen of Heaven and Earth

O Mary, may the souls who suffer cruel torments in Purgatory, purified by the ardor of the flames, be the object of your compassion!

O Mary, Open Spring which cleanses our faults, Reconciler of sinners, reach out to those who pray you and implore your assistance in Purgatory!

O Mary, intercede for our deceased. They await patiently the end of their suffering when they will see you and taste eternal joys!

O Mary, Model of the Just, Guide of the faithful, Salvation of those who hope in you, help us to pray ardently for the souls of the deceased and touch the Heart of your Divine Son!

O Mary, by the merits you have gained, give the dead true life, obtain mercy for them, and be the way which leads to your Son Jesus and to Eternal Rest! Amen!

A Prayer for The Holy Souls in Purgatory**

O most gentle Heart of Jesus, ever present in the Blessed Sacrament, ever consumed with burning love for the poor captive souls in Purgatory, have mercy on the souls of Thy departed servants. Be not severe in Thy judgments, but let some drops of Thy Precious Blood fall upon the devouring flames. And do Thou, O merciful Saviour, send Thy holy angels to conduct them to a place of refreshment, light and peace. Amen.

A Prayer for the Dead**

O God, the Creator and Redeemer of all the faithful, grant unto the souls of Thy departed servants full remission of all their sins, that through the help of our pious supplications they may obtain that pardon which they have always desired. Thou Who livest and reignest world without end. Amen.

V. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord.
R. And let perpetual light shine upon them
V. May they rest in peace. Amen.

A Prayer for Our Dear Departed**

O God Jesus, Whose loving Heart was ever troubled by the sorrows of others, look with pity on the souls of our dear ones in Purgatory. O Thou Who didst \"love Thine own\" hear our cry for mercy, and grant that those whom Thou hast called from our homes and hearts may soon enjoy everlasting rest in the home of Thy Love in Heaven. Amen.

V. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord.
R. And let perpetual light shine upon them
V. May they rest in peace. Amen.

A Prayer for Deceased Parents**

O God, who hast commanded us to honor our father and our mother, in Thy mercy have pity on the souls of my father and mother, and forgive them their trespasses, and make me see them again in the joy of everlasting brightness. Through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

A Prayer to Jesus and Mary**

O Most loving Jesus, I humbly beseech Thee that Thou wouldst Thyself offer to Thine eternal Father, on behalf of the Holy Souls in Purgatory, Thy Most Precious Blood, which pouredforth from the Sacred Wounds of Thine adorable Body, together with Thine agony and death. And do thou likewise, O sorrowful Virgin Mary, present unto the Heavenly Father, together with the dolorous passion of thy dear Son, thine own sighs and tears, and all the sorrows thou didst suffer in His suffering, in order that, through the merits of the same, refreshment may be granted to the souls now suffering in the fiery torments of Purgatory, so that, being delivered from that painful prison, they may be clothed with glory in Heaven, there to sing the mercies of God for ever and ever. Amen.

Absolve, O Lord, the souls of all the faithful departed from every bond of sin, that by Thy gracious assistance they may deserve to escape the judgment of vengeance and enjoy the blessedness of everlasting light. Amen.

V. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord.
R. And let perpetual light shine upon them
V. From the gates of Hell,
R. Deliver their souls, O Lord.
V. May they rest in peace.
R. Amen.
V. O Lord, hear my prayer.
R. And let my cry come unto Thee.

Let us pray

O God, the Creator and Redeemer of all the faithful, grant unto the souls of Thy servants and handmaids, the remission of all their sins, that through our devout supplications they may obtain the pardon they have always desired, Thou Who livest and reignest world without end. Amen.

A Prayer for a Deceased Priest**

O God, Thou didst raise Thy servant, N., to the sacred priesthood of Jesus Christ, according to the Order of Melchisedech, giving him the sublime power to offer the Eternal Sacrifice, to bring the Body and Blood of Thy Son Jesus Christ down upon the altar, and to absolve the sins of men in Thine own Holy Name. We beseech Thee to reward his faithfulness and to forget his faults, admitting him speedily into Thy Holy Presence, there to enjoy forever the recompense of his labors. This we ask through Jesus Christ Thy Son, our Lord. Amen.

A Prayer to the Poor Souls in Purgatory**

O holy souls in Purgatory, you are the certain heirs of Heaven. You are most dear to Jesus, as the trophies of His Precious Blood, and to Mary, Mother of Mercy. Obtain for me, through your intercession, the grace to lead a holy life, to die a happy death, and to attain to the blessedness of eternity in Heaven.

Dear suffering souls, who long to be delivered in order to praise and glorify God in Heaven, by your unfailing pity, help me in the needs which distress me at this time, particularly (here mention your request), so that I may obtain relief and assistance from God.

In gratitude for your intercession, I offer to God, on your behalf, the satisfactory merits of my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day (week, month, or whatever space of time you wish to designate). Amen.

A Prayer of Supplication to the Poor Souls in Purgatory**

O holy souls, as one truly devoted to you, I promise never to forget you and continually to pray to the Most High for your release. I beseech you to respond to this offering which I make to you, and to obtain for me, from God, with Whom you are so powerful on behalf of the living, that I may be free from all dangers of souls and body.

I beg both for myself and for my relations and benefactors, friends and enemies, pardon for our sins, and the grace of perseverance in good, whereby we may save our souls. Obtain for us peace of heart; assist us in all our actions; succor us promptly in all our spiritual and temporal needs; console and defend us in our dangers.

Pray for our Holy Father, the Pope; for the exaltation of Holy Church; for peace between nations; for Christian rulers; and for tranquility among peoples; and grant that we may one day all rejoice together in Paradise. Amen.

Prayer for the Faithful Departed**

O most compassionate Jesus, have mercy on the souls detained in Purgatory, for whose redemption Thou didst take upon Thyself our nature and endure a bitter death. Mercifully hear their sighs, look with pity upon the tears which they now shed before Thee, and by virtue of Thy Passion, release them from the pains due to their sins. O most merciful Jesus, let Thy Precious Blood reach down into Purgatory and refresh and revive the captive souls who suffer there. Stretch out to them Thy strong right hand, and bring them forth into the place of refreshment, light and peace. Amen.

O blessed souls! We have prayed for thee! We entreat thee, who art so dear to God, and who art certain of never losing Him, to pray for us poor miserable sinners who are in danger of being damned and of losing God forever. Amen.

A Prayer for the Suffering Souls**

O Adorable Trinity, cast upon us Thy merciful glance. Look at these souls whom Thou hast created, and who suffer far from Thee an unutterable grief. Look at Thy poor contrite servants, humbly supplicating Thee in their behalf. For the sake of the glorious Virgin Mary, Mother of Jesus Christ, and our Mother also, deign to shorten the sufferings of these desolate souls; and to us all who labor in the miseries of the life, grant the grace of eternal salvation.
I am only a sinner, but in obedience to Thy command, dear Jesus, I dare to intercede with Thee for my captive brethren. Deign by Thy Holy Sacrifice to appease the justice of Thy Father and open Heaven to those poor souls who languish far from Thee. Amen.

V. Grant unto them, O Lord, eternal rest;
R. And let perpetual light shine upon them
V. May they rest in peace.
R. Amen.

Prayer to God the Father**

Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Precious Blood of Jesus Christ in satisfaction for my sins, in supplication for the Holy Souls in Purgatory and for the needs of the Holy Church. Amen.

Prayer for the Souls in Purgatory**

O Almighty God, with Whom live the souls of the perfect, and in Whose holy keeping are placed the souls of those that depart hence in an inferior degree of Thy grace -- they being, by their imperfect character, unworthy of Thy Presence and therefore detained in a state of grief and suspended hopes -- as we bless Thee for the saints already admitted to Thy glory, so we humbly offer our prayers for Thine afflicted servants, who continually wait and sigh for the day of their deliverance. Pardon their sins, supply their want of preparation, and wipe away the tears from their eyes, that they may see Thee, and in Thy glorious sight rejoice eternally, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer of St. Gertrude the Great**

O Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today for all the holy souls in Purgatory and for sinners everywhere -- for sinners in the Universal Church, for those in my own own home and for those within my family. Amen.

Prayer to Jesus

O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of Hell. Lead all souls to Heaven, and help especially those most in need of thy Mercy.

Tenth Petition of the Jesus Psalter

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus — Send me here my purgatory. (Repeat three times)

Jesus, send me here my purgatory, and so prevent the torments of that cleansing fire, which attend those souls in the next world that have not been purged enough in this.

Vouchsafe to grant me those merciful crosses and afflictions which Thou seest necessary for the taking of mine affections and from all things here below.

Since no-one can see Thee who loveth anything which is not for Thy sake, suffer not my heart to find any rest here, but to sighing after Thee.

Too bitter, alas! will be the anguish of a soul that is separated from Thee, that desireth but cannot come to Thee, being clogged with the heavy chains of sin.

Here, then, O my Saviour, keep me continually mortified to this world, that being thoroughly purified by the fire of Thy love, I may immediately pass thence into Thine everlasting possessions.

Have mercy on all sinners, Jesus, I beseech Thee; turn their vices into virtues; and making them true observers of Thy law, and sincere lovers of Thee, bring them to bliss in everlasting glory.

Have mercy, also, on the souls in purgatory, for Thy bitter Passion, I beseech Thee, and for Thy glorious Name Jesus, O Blessed Trinity, one Eternal God, have mercy on me.

Our Lord Jesus Christ humbled Himself, becoming obedient even unto death, even to the death of the cross.

Hear these petitions, O my most merciful Saviour, and grant me the grace so frequently to repeat and consider them, that they may prove easy steps whereby my soul may ascend to the knowledge, love and performance of my duty to Thee and my neighbour, through the whole course of my life. Amen.

(Our Father . . . Hail Mary . . . I believe in God . . .)

[The 15-Petition Jesus Psalter was widely used by Catholics in England during times of persecution, and was a favourite daily devotion with many of them.]
